Made to Measure

Pleated screens for wide openings

A fixed screen can be impractical for bi-fold doors, French doors, stacker doors and alfresco openings. A pleated screen slides across the opening and stores neatly to the side when it is not needed.

The right layout depends on the opening, available fixing space and how people move through the area.

Configuration

Choosing the right configuration

Single opening

A single retractable screen draws from one side. It can suit narrower doors or openings where access is mainly from one direction.

Centre opening

Two screens meet in the middle. This layout can make wider openings easier to access from either side.

Door travel

For sliding or stacker doors, we check the handles, moving panels and opening direction before recommending a layout.

Key Benefits

Designed around the way you use your space

A custom screen should work smoothly, complement the opening and remain practical in daily use.

01

Suited to wide openings

Pleated screens can suit bi-fold doors, French doors, stacker doors and alfresco openings after a site measure.

02

Discreet when open

The folded mesh stores to the side, leaving the opening clearer when screening is not needed.

03

Smooth manual operation

Accurate measuring and correct track alignment help the screen move smoothly during everyday use.

Guide

Planning a pleated screen installation

The best layout depends on the door type, opening width, fixing surfaces and daily access.

Sliding and stacker doors

A side-gliding screen often works well with sliding and stacker doors. We check the handles, interlocks, panel overlap and clear opening before suggesting a single or double layout.

Track and threshold details

The lower guide must sit securely without making access unnecessarily difficult. During the measure, we review existing tracks, thresholds, floor levels, drainage and possible trip points.

Existing doors and retrofit installations

Many existing openings can be assessed for a retractable screen. This may include a sliding door, French door, bi-fold door or suitable window opening. We check the tracks, handles, architraves, flooring and fixing surfaces before confirming suitability.

Single or double opening systems

A single side-stacking screen may suit an opening where most access happens from one side. A double layout may work better across a wider span or where people usually walk through the centre. The available product size and layout are confirmed after measuring.

More to know before ordering

These details should be checked before the final screen layout is confirmed.

Airflow, visibility and insect protection

Mesh selection affects airflow, outward visibility, insect protection and appearance. The best option depends on the opening, the outlook and how often the screen will be used.

Using retractable screens day to day

Open and close the screen with steady pressure. Keep the lower track and guides clear of dirt. Do not force the screen if it feels blocked. Clean the mesh and frame gently, and arrange an inspection if any part is damaged.

What we check during a measure

We check the opening size, squareness, handle clearances, door panels, fixing surfaces, floor levels and thresholds. We also review the opening direction, traffic flow and preferred frame colour.

Google Review

We have three expanding insect screens in our house, on some very big spans and they're great. We are very happy with the product and service. Just note on such a big span there is some resistance on the mechanism and they require regular cleaning, but considering they retract into a tight bunch, it's absolutely worth it.
