How to Prepare for a Measure and Quote

A few photos, a clear list of openings and notes about everyday use can make your measure and quote more useful. Use this checklist before contacting our Sydney team.

You do not need to arrive at a measure and quote with every product decision already made. The visit is a chance to assess your openings, discuss how you use the space and work through suitable options. A little preparation gives our team a clearer starting point and helps you get more from the conversation.

Start with a simple list of openings

Write down the rooms and the windows or doors you would like us to assess. Include the product you are considering, even if the answer is simply a fly screen for a window or blinds for a bedroom. If you are replacing an existing product, note what is no longer working for you.

Keep any broader plans on the list too. You may want to screen the main living area first and discuss other openings later. Identifying the whole project helps us understand your priorities without assuming every item needs to be included in the initial order.

Take photos that show the whole opening

Photos help us review your enquiry before arranging the next step. Take them from a safe position and include the surrounding frame, rather than only a close-up of the glass or mesh. Where practical, show the window or door both open and closed.

  • One clear photo of the complete window or doorway, including the surrounding frame.
  • A closer view of handles, existing tracks, hinges or the threshold.
  • A photo showing where door panels fold, slide or stack when open.
  • Any existing screen, blind, curtain track or obstruction that may affect fitting.

Label the photos by room so each image can be matched to your list. You can upload multiple photos through our enquiry form. Avoid including people or personal documents when they are not relevant to the opening.

Do I need to measure it myself?

Approximate width and height can help describe the scale of a project, but there is no need to climb, remove parts or reach an awkward area to provide them. Tell us if your dimensions are estimates. Our team takes the measurements needed for the selected product during the site assessment.

For a renovation, explain whether the window frames, flooring or surrounding finishes are final. A new threshold or changed frame can affect the fit, so it is useful to discuss the appropriate stage for final measurement.

Explain how you use the room

Product choice becomes easier when it starts with everyday routines. For screens, tell us which windows you open regularly, how often you walk through a doorway and whether you want the mesh to retract. Mention furniture, curtains or door handles close to the proposed screen.

For blinds and curtains, think about glare, natural light and privacy at different times of day. A bedroom, street-facing living room and home office can need different combinations of fabric and coverage. Photos of finishes or a short description of your preferred look are useful, but you can also discuss colours and materials during the consultation.

Make the opening accessible

Move small, easily handled items away from the window or door where practical, and tell us about any heavy furniture or access difficulty in advance. Share your suburb, building entry arrangements and relevant parking or site access information when booking. If building permission is needed for the proposed work, let us know the approval status.

Questions to keep handy

  • Which product and opening configuration suits the way I use this space?
  • What work is included, and does anything need to be prepared before installation?
  • How will I operate and clean the product after installation?
  • What details need to be confirmed before the order proceeds?

SK Screens & Blinds reviews your enquiry, measures and discusses suitable products, then prepares the agreed solution for professional installation.
