Considerations When Buying a Security Door

Security and Fly Screen Doors

A good solid screen door is your first defence when it comes to keeping you home safe. It will not only keep out potential thieves, it will also prevent insects from getting into your home. Modern security doors are also stylish, and there is always on option to suit you exterior décor.

  • Buy from a reputable company. Some cheaper manufacturers will just copy the look of the other security doors, but not provide the necessary protection.
  • Powder coated frames are a good option, especially with aluminium. The range of colours will include one that suits your home.
  • Stainless steel doors are another good option.
  • Match the door colour to your home.
  • Pin hinge. This means the hinge is part of the door structure, and runs from top to base of the door. Bolt on hinges are not as strong.
  • Triple locking security (top, base and middle) is highly recommended.
  • Use licensed master installers.
  • Security doors should meet Australian security standards – AS3959-2009 Test, and AS1530.4-2005.
  • Australian standards specify a dynamic impact test, anti-jemmy test and a knife shear test.
  • Get the written warranty.
